What Is a PTFE Rod?
A PTFE rod is a solid, cylindrical bar of polytetrafluoroethylene produced by compression moulding and sintering, or by ram (paste) extrusion, depending on diameter and grade. The result is a dense, semi-crystalline fluoropolymer stock shape that can be machined, turned, drilled and cut into precision components such as seals, bushings, valve seats, insulators, spacers and wear pads.
PTFE was discovered in 1938 and remains the benchmark fluoropolymer for chemical and thermal performance. Because the carbon backbone is fully shielded by fluorine atoms, PTFE resists virtually every industrial chemical, will not absorb water, and stays stable across an exceptionally wide temperature range — properties that few other plastics can match simultaneously.
