What Is a Forged Gate Valve?

A forged gate valve gives full-bore, on/off isolation in a compact body, built for small, high-pressure lines where a cast steel gate valve would need to be unnecessarily bulky to hit the same pressure rating. Forging packs more strength into less material, which is why our forged range tops out around 2 inches and hands off to cast construction above that size. Where the line is carrying solids or slurry instead of a clean process fluid, our knife edge gate valves are worth a look instead.

1.4408 Gate Valves, the CF8M Grade

EN material number 1.4408 corresponds to CF8M, the cast grade equivalent of 316 stainless steel, with added molybdenum for better resistance to chlorides and mildly sour, sulfide-bearing media. As a 1.4408 gate valves manufacturer, we supply this grade where general corrosion resistance and moderate sulfur tolerance both matter, without needing to step up to a fully NACE-qualified material.

1.4552 Gate Valves, the Niobium-Stabilised 347 Grade

EN 1.4552 corresponds to X6CrNiNb18-10, the niobium-stabilised version of 347 stainless steel. Adding niobium ties up the carbon in the steel before it can combine with chromium at the grain boundaries during welding or high-temperature service, a process called sensitisation. Left unaddressed, sensitisation strips chromium away from the surrounding metal and leaves it open to intergranular corrosion. A stabilised grade like 1.4552 avoids that, which is why it holds up well in high-temperature service and after welded fabrication, both common requirements on forged valve bodies. As a 1.4552 gate valves factory, we supply this grade for exactly those conditions.

Sulfur-Resistant Gate Valves for Sour Service

Where a line genuinely carries hydrogen sulfide or other sulfur compounds, material selection is not optional. As a sulfur resistant gate valve exporter, we supply forged gate valves in grades qualified to NACE MR0175 for sour service, chosen to resist sulfide stress cracking rather than just general corrosion. Trim and body material are matched to the specific H2S partial pressure and temperature in your service, so it’s worth sharing the full process conditions with your enquiry rather than just the pipe spec.
