Cast Steel Globe Valves

Aashish Metals supplies cast steel globe valve for throttling duty, where a line needs regular, controlled adjustment rather than a simple full-bore shut-off. Unlike a gate valve, a globe valve pushes flow through an S-shaped path against a disc and seat, which gives it excellent regulation but a slightly higher pressure drop when open. We cast the body in ASTM A216 Gr. WCB as standard, and we can move you up to LCB for low-temperature lines, WC6 or WC9 for elevated temperature, or stainless steel (CF8/CF8M) and duplex or super duplex castings where the media is corrosive or chloride-heavy. Bonnets are available bolted or pressure-seal, discs come in plug, Y-type or parabolic patterns depending on how tight the shut-off needs to be, and every valve is built with an outside-screw-and-yoke rising stem and a backseat arrangement, so gland packing can be replaced without shutting the line down. If your project needs a smaller, high-pressure globe valve instead, our forged globe valves cover that duty, and our angle type globe valves are worth a look wherever a 90-degree turn in the line can double up as the valve body. Every cast steel globe valve we ship is hydrostatically shell- and seat-tested per API 598, comes with an EN 10204 3.1/3.2 mill certificate and full heat-number traceability, and can carry IBR Form III-C certification for steam and boiler duty on request.

What Is a Cast Steel Globe Valve, and When Should You Use One?

A globe valve gets its name from the rounded shape of its body, inside which a movable disc sits against a stationary ring seat. Turning the handwheel raises or lowers that disc, which lets you dial the flow anywhere between fully closed and fully open, not just switch it on or off. That’s the key difference from a cast steel gate valve: a gate valve is built for isolation with almost no pressure drop, while a globe valve is built for throttling, and accepts a bit more pressure drop as the price of that control.

Disc Types and What They’re Good For

  • Plug type disc: a tapered, cylindrical plug that gives fine control at low flow rates and is the most common choice for general throttling duty
  • Y-type disc: body and seat set at an angle, so the flow path is straighter and less turbulent, useful where pressure drop needs to be kept down
  • Parabolic disc: a curved profile that gives a more linear relationship between valve travel and flow, suited to modulating and control-valve style duty

Where Cast Instead of Forged Makes Sense

Casting is the practical choice once a globe valve body needs to be larger than roughly 2 inches, since a forged body at that size would use a lot more raw material to hit the same pressure rating. Below 2 inches, our forged globe valves are usually the more compact, cost-effective option for high-pressure small-bore lines.

Choosing the body material is really choosing the grade family it belongs to:

  • A216 WCB, our standard casting, is a general-purpose carbon steel for ambient service
  • A352 LCB is the low-temperature version, matching our LTCS A350 LF2 fittings for a consistent cold-service hook-up
  • A217 WC6/WC9/C5/C12A are alloy steel castings for elevated-temperature service
  • CF8/CF8M/CF3/CF3M are the cast equivalents of stainless steel 304/316 for corrosion resistance
  • Duplex and super duplex castings step in for high-chloride and sour service, matching our duplex and super duplex steel pipe and fitting range

  • Disc: plug type, Y-type or parabolic, chosen against your flow and control requirement
  • Seat: renewable seat as standard, hard-faced or Stellite overlay available for erosive or high-cycle service
  • Stem: outside screw and yoke (OS&Y), rising stem, with a backseat that lets gland packing be replaced while the valve is under line pressure
  • End connections: flanged, butt-weld, socket-weld or screwed, as per ASME B16.5, B16.11, B16.25 and B1.20.1
  • Operation: handwheel as standard; gear-operated, or electric, pneumatic and hydraulic actuation on request

Specialised Applications

Beyond standard process duty, we build cast steel globe valves for two demanding services:

  • Cryogenic service down to -196°C, with extended bonnets and materials qualified for low-temperature toughness
  • High-temperature steam service above 600°C, where alloy steel or nickel alloy trims hold up better than standard carbon steel
  • Optional cryogenic testing and fire-safe testing can be arranged where the project specification calls for it

Applications & Industries

  • Oil & Gas: flow control on process and utility lines
  • Power Generation: steam and boiler feed throttling, with IBR certification
  • Petrochemical & Chemical Processing: corrosive and high-temperature duty
  • Cryogenic & Gas Processing: low-temperature throttling service
  • Water Treatment, Marine and Pulp & Paper: general flow-regulation duty

FAQ’s About Forged Globe Valve

A forged globe valve is used to throttle or regulate flow in small-bore, high-pressure lines. It can also be used fully open or fully closed like an isolation valve, but its real advantage is fine control of flow rate through partial opening.

We supply forged globe valves from 1/2″ to 2″, in pressure classes 800, 1500 and 2500, built to API 602 and ASME B16.34.

A forged body can achieve a very high pressure rating in a compact size without the extra bulk a cast body of the same rating would need. That makes forged construction the more efficient choice for small-bore, high-pressure duty, typically up to around 2 inches.

A renewable seat ring is a separate part that can be replaced during maintenance. An integral seat ring is machined directly into the body and paired with a welded bonnet, which is generally specified for very high-pressure service where a bolted joint is not the preferred option.

Our standard body is ASTM A105 forged carbon steel. We also supply LF2 for low temperature, F11/F22 for high temperature, F304/F316/F316L/F321/F347 stainless grades, F51/F55 duplex and super duplex, and Inconel, Monel, Hastelloy and Alloy 20 for severe corrosive service.
