Stainless Steel 904L (UNS N08904 / DIN 1.4539) is a low-carbon, high-alloy austenitic stainless steel specifically engineered for aggressive, highly corrosive environments. Unlike standard grades such as 316L, 904L incorporates elevated levels of nickel (23–28%), chromium (19–23%), molybdenum (4–5%), and copper (1–2%), making it exceptionally resistant to:

No. SS 904L is highly resistant to both rusting and corrosion owing to its high nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and copper content. It offers significantly better corrosion resistance than standard grades like 304 or 316L, especially in acidic and chloride-rich environments.
SS 904L contains significantly higher nickel (23–28% vs 10–14%) and molybdenum (4–5% vs 2–3%) than 316L, plus an addition of copper (1–2%) absent in 316L.
