What Are Stainless Steel 304L Tube Fittings?
Stainless steel 304L tube fittings are precision tube fittings that can be used to join, branch, seal and redirect a tube run in fluid and gas systems without welding. The “L” refers to the low carbon variants (maximum 0.030% carbon) which are much less likely to precipitate carbides and to undergo intergranular corrosion at weld zones compared to a standard 304. Because the low-carbon chemistry resists carbide precipitation in the weld-affected zone, 304L is specified where joints are welded, thermally cycled, or exposed to mildly corrosive media — common in oil & gas, chemical processing, pharmaceutical and instrumentation systems.
We offer a full range of 304L fitting family single and double ferrule compression fittings, tube unions, elbows, tees, crosses, bulkhead unions, male and female connectors, reducers, caps and plugs in inch and metric sizes from 1/8ʺ (3 mm) to 2ʺ (50 mm). Each fitting is manufactured from ASTM A182 / A276 / A479 bar stock, pressure tested to 10,000 PSI and shipped with complete material traceability. Our 304L fittings provide a positive, repeatable, leak free seal that is reliable against pressure spikes, vibration, as well as when building new instrumentation manifolds or replacing corroded joints on an existing skid. If you have a size, thread and end connection, we can try to match it from stock or we can make it for you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stainless Steel 304 Tube Fittings
The instrumentation tube fittings SS 304L make leak-tight connections in a process control which are vibration-free and corrosion-free. They are typically used in gas lines, chemical dosing units, hydraulic systems, analyzers and high purity where high precision flow control and mechanical stability are required.
Yes. SS 304L compression and ferrule fittings are designed to operate with moderately high and high pressures with variations in tube sizes, wall thickness and configuration. They have better weldability due to their low-carbon chemistry and minimized chances of carbide precipitation thus they remain stable with changing pressures and thermal excursions.
Although both grades have similar corrosion resistance, the 304L is low in carbon reducing the formation of carbide during the welding process. This causes 304L instrumentation fittings to be the favorite choice when the system operates at increased temperature, is in contact with a harsh chemical or when the welded assembly requires long and continuous service in the system.
These are chosen based on operating pressure, compatibility of the media with the operating pressure, temperature constraints and tube size. Directional changes are done by means of elbows, tees and unions and ferrule fittings are used to have a secure sealing. Always be certain to sub-match the fitting material with the process fluid and to make sure the dimensions and the instrumentation tubing standards conform.
Yes. SS 304L tube fittings are highly resistant to corrosion in the atmosphere, weak chemical exposure and oxidizing atmosphere. They contain chromium-nickel composition and are stable in humid, salty, light industrial applications and are therefore applicable in chemical dosing, instrumentation lines and general-purpose processes.
The capability of pressure depends on fitting design, tube OD and wall thickness. As a rule, SS 304L instrumentation fittings can withstand several thousand PSI pressures when properly installed, even in a medium duty manner. Never use more pressure or unsafe operating temperatures than recommended on manufacturer charts.
Yes. SS 304L fittings are fitting most seamless and welded 304, 304L and 316 stainless-steel tubes. OD, surface finish and hardness of tubes must be checked to provide tight-fitting sealing and negative failures in the long-term during installation and system running.
