What Is a PTFE Teflon Sheet?
A PTFE Teflon sheet is a flat, machinable sheet made from polytetrafluoroethylene — a synthetic fluoropolymer of carbon and fluorine. It is one of the most chemically inert engineering materials available, resisting almost all acids, alkalis, and solvents, and it carries the lowest coefficient of friction of any solid material. These properties make PTFE sheet the default choice wherever non-stick behaviour, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, or high-temperature stability is critical.
How PTFE Sheets Are Made
Molded (compression-molded) PTFE sheet: PTFE resin is compressed and sintered into billets or sheets, producing dense, dimensionally stable sheets ideal for thicker gauges and machined components.
Skived PTFE sheet: a thin layer is precision-skived (peeled) from a sintered billet on a lathe, giving smooth, uniform thin sheets and rolls — perfect for gaskets, linings, and slide pads.
