What Is a Hastelloy Round Bar?
A Hastelloy round bar is a solid, long-product form of nickel-based superalloy, produced by hot rolling, cold drawing, or forging from a primary billet or ingot. Hastelloy alloys are nickel-chromium-molybdenum systems (with optional tungsten and cobalt additions) that deliver remarkable resistance to corrosion, high-temperature oxidation, and stress-corrosion cracking in environments where conventional stainless steels rapidly fail. Round bars are the raw material of choice for machined components — valve bodies, pump shafts, impellers, fastener blanks, structural pins, and precision instrument parts — in corrosive process industries.
Aashish Metals stocks four primary Hastelloy grades in bar form:
Hastelloy Hastelloy Round Bar Grades
Hastelloy C276 Round Bar
Hastelloy C276 (UNS N10276 / Werkstoff Nr. 2.4819) is the most widely specified corrosion-resistant alloy globally. With 15–17% molybdenum and ~3.7% tungsten, it resists both oxidising and reducing environments — sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, wet chlorine, and seawater — with equal competence. Our Hastelloy C276 round bars are the top-selling grade and are available from stock in a wide diameter range.
Hastelloy C22 Round Bar
Hastelloy C22 (UNS N06022 / Werkstoff Nr. 2.4602) has higher chromium (20–22.5%), giving it superior oxidising acid resistance and performance in mixed-acid environments. Our Hastelloy C22 round bars are specified for pharmaceutical reactor shafts, FGD system components, and precision valve internals.
Hastelloy B2 Round Bar
Hastelloy B2 (UNS N10665 / Werkstoff Nr. 2.4617) has the highest molybdenum content (26–30%) of the C-family, making it unrivalled for resisting hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid (non-oxidising concentrations), and acetic acid. Our Hastelloy B2 round bars are essential for HCl plant equipment.
Hastelloy X Round Bar
Hastelloy X (UNS N06002 / Werkstoff Nr. 2.4665) is the high-temperature specialist of the family — rated up to 1,204 °C (2,200 °F). Its combination of oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength makes it the first choice for aerospace gas turbine components, combustion chambers, and industrial furnace parts.

Where Hastelloy Round Bars Are Used
Hastelloy tube fittings are indispensable wherever process media would destroy conventional stainless steel fittings within months. The following industries rely on them daily:
Chemical Processing Instrument tubing loops, sampling systems, chemical injection lines, and vent connections in reactors, columns, and storage vessels handling acids, chlorides, and oxidising/reducing mixed streams. Hastelloy C276 is the standard grade here; C22 steps in where oxidising conditions dominate.
Oil & Gas / Petrochemical Wellhead instrument connections, chemical injection quills, subsea control umbilicals, and offshore platform process lines exposed to H₂S-bearing sour gas and high-chloride brine. NACE MR0175-compliant fittings are readily available from Aashish Metals. Pair with our Hastelloy C276 pipes and tubes for complete instrument loop packages.
Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology High-purity sample lines, solvent transfer loops, and CIP/SIP connections in API synthesis plants and biofermentation facilities, where both aggressive solvents and oxidising sterilants must be handled by the same fitting.
Power Generation Steam and condensate sampling systems, flue-gas desulphurisation (FGD) scrubber instrumentation, and cooling water chemistry monitoring loops in power plants.
Aerospace & Defence Fuel system fittings, hydraulic lines, and test-rig connections for aircraft and defence applications where Hastelloy X and C276 are specified for their combination of corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength.
Marine & Shipbuilding Seawater cooling system connections, ballast water treatment instrument lines, and desalination plant tubing where marine-grade corrosion resistance is non-negotiable.
Water Treatment & Environment Hypochlorite dosing systems, acid scrubber instrument lines, and effluent treatment plant connections.
Food & Beverage / Research Laboratories Analytical instrument connections, HPLC sample lines, and chromatography column fittings where chemical inertness and freedom from contamination are critical.
Manufacturing, Heat Treatment & Fabrication
Hastelloy round bars are produced through three primary manufacturing routes — the choice depends on the required mechanical properties, tolerance, and surface finish:
Hot Rolling — Bars are produced at high temperature (above recrystallisation temperature), giving good ductility and reduced hardness. Surface is rough (black scale) and tolerances are wider. Best for general structural and fabrication use where precision is not critical.
Cold Drawing — Bars are drawn through a die at room temperature after hot rolling, improving surface finish, tightening tolerances, and increasing strength and hardness. Cold drawn bars are ideal for precision machining with tight dimensional requirements.
Forging — Bars are worked by compressive forces (hammer or press), producing superior grain structure, enhanced fatigue strength, and excellent impact toughness. Forged Hastelloy bars are specified for high-integrity applications such as pump shafts, valve bodies, and aerospace components.
Annealing — Solution annealing relieves internal stresses, restores ductility, and precipitates chromium carbides back into solution, restoring corrosion resistance after machining or cold working.
FAQs Hastelloy Round Bar
Hastelloy round bars conform to ASTM B574 / ASME SB574. Hastelloy rod, bar, and wire in general conform to ASTM B166 / ASME SB166. Dimensional and tolerance standards include EN, DIN, JIS, ASTM, BS, and AISI as applicable.
Aashish Metals stocks Hastelloy C276 round bars from 3 mm to 500 mm diameter, with lengths from 100 mm to 3,000 mm (and above on request). Hex bars are available from 2 mm A/F, square bars from 4 mm, and flat bars from 2 mm thickness.
Hastelloy C276 has higher molybdenum and tungsten content, making it superior in reducing environments such as HCl and H₂SO₄. Hastelloy C22 has more chromium, giving it better performance in oxidising environments like nitric acid and FGD scrubber streams. For general chemical service, C276 is the standard choice; for strongly oxidising conditions, C22 is preferred.
Yes. Hastelloy X (UNS N06002) is rated to 1,204 °C (2,200 °F), making it the top choice for gas turbine components, combustion chambers, afterburners, and industrial furnace parts. Its density is 8.22 g/cm³ and tensile strength is approximately 655 MPa.
We supply Hastelloy round bars in black (as-rolled/hot rolled), bright polished, rough turned, No.4 finish, matt finish, bright annealed (BA), peeled, hairline, and mirror finish. Cold drawn bars offer tighter tolerances and improved surface quality.
The primary applications include pump shafts, agitator shafts, valve stems and trim, impellers, fastener blanks (for machining into bolts and studs), precision-turned components, structural pins, bearing-quality bar, and aerospace turbine components (Hastelloy X).
