These grades are chosen for their resistance to high temperature, chloride and acid corrosion and high-temperature strength. Inconel 600, 601, 625 & 718
The Inconel grades are nickel-chromium alloys built for heat and corrosion. Inconel 600 is the volume grade, a nickel-chromium-iron alloy that holds up in high-temperature and caustic service and resists chloride stress-corrosion cracking, stocked as round bars, pipes and tubes, fittings and fasteners. Inconel 601 adds oxidation resistance for hotter furnace work. Inconel 625 is the all-rounder, combining strength with corrosion resistance across seawater, acid and a wide temperature range, and it also comes as pipes and tubes. Inconel 718 is the age-hardened high-strength grade, the one specified for fasteners, shafts and rotating parts that must hold strength at temperature.
Incoloy 800, 800H, 800HT & 825
The Incoloy grades carry more iron and are built for the high-temperature and acid end. Incoloy 800 round bars and the 800H and 800HT variants are furnace, heater and pigtail alloys, with 800H and 800HT chosen where creep strength governs at sustained heat. Incoloy 825 is the acid specialist of the family, a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with copper and molybdenum for sulphuric and phosphoric acid and sour-gas service, supplied to NACE MR0175 on request and stocked as round bars, pipes and tubes and fittings. Between 800 for heat and 825 for acid, the Incoloy side covers the conditions where an Inconel grade is more than the job needs.
How to Choose the Right Inconel or Incoloy Grade
A short guide by the condition that governs the part:
- High temperature and caustic: Inconel 600, or 601 for more oxidation resistance; Incoloy 800H and 800HT where creep strength matters.
- Strength plus corrosion, seawater and acid: Inconel 625, the widest-range grade in the family.
- High mechanical strength at heat: Inconel 718, the age-hardened choice for fasteners and rotating parts.
- Sulphuric and phosphoric acid, sour gas: Incoloy 825, the economical acid alloy with NACE compliance.
- Beyond this family: for reducing acids like hydrochloric the answer is Hastelloy, and for hydrofluoric acid it is Monel.

Nickel alloys are specified where failure is expensive, so every order ships with an EN 10204 mill test certificate, heat-number traceable, with positive material identification available piece by piece, which matters when a 625 must be confirmed as 625 and not a look-alike. NACE MR0175 compliance for sour service is arranged at order stage on 825 and the applicable grades, and third-party witness through BV, SGS or TUV is available.
